l Have No Hands in Galamsey Operations - Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai MCE Fires Back
Galamsey activities

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Mr Alfred Amoah, has flatly denied allegations levelled against him by some self-seeking Assembly members led by the Assemblymember of Bibiani Estate Electoral Area, Hon Kwame Asamoah, that he was engaged in illegal small scale mining activities.

Although there were illegal small scale mining activities on-going in some electoral areas such Chirano, Chine, Manse, Mrewa among others within the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality, Mr Amoah stressed that "My hands are clean and l want to state that l have no hands in galamsey operations in these areas."

The MCE disclosed to Soireenews that Mr Asamoah’s beef with him stemmed from the fact he was being prevented from becoming the current Presiding Member (PM) of the assembly.

He said that "Mr Asamoah contested with two other persons, Dr Robert Aidoo and Newlove Gyasi and according to the modern standing order of the Local Governance, any Assembly members who contested the position of PM and none of them was able to secure a third of the total number of the votes of the Assembly members, the first two are allowed to contest again

"And that if none of them again fail to secure a third of the total of the assembly members in the house, then they have to step down for a new crop of the Assembly members to contest the PM position. And this above arrangement that Mr Asamoah failed to understand hence his decision to drag the Assembly to court," the MCE explained.

Mr Amoah noted that his colleague believes he did not help him to win the slot and that is why he was going around peddling these falsehoods against me."

According to the MCE, he will be the last person to engage in illegal small scale mining activities as a law-abiding citizen who was appointed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Addo-Addo to steer affairs of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly.

"I know some of the self-seeking personalities including the Assemblymember for Bibiani Estate Electoral Area, Hon Kwame Asamoah, who has currently teamed up with others and were travelling to towns and villages within the municipality making those false allegations against me that l am engaging in illegal small scale mining activities which are not even true.”

"But I want to make it clear to the general public, particularly the people in the area that l have never engaged in galamsey operations as is being claimed by people who are in to undermine me,” the MCE said.
