The Municipal Chief Executive of Kwabre East Municipal, Hon. Osei Assibey Bonsu has pleaded to residents flouting the coronavirus preventive measure to consider the dangerous implications of the terrible disease and adhere to the Health Services instruction for their safety.

According to the MCE, inhabitants in the Kwabre East seem not concerned with the threats of COVID-19 and are inappropriately contravening on the required measures, which incidentally affects the lives of others.

 

 

 

Plagiarizing the words of the president of Ghana, Hon. Osei Assibey beseeched the populace in the Municipality that the these are not normal times where business routines are done without restrictions hence the need to self-sacrifice to help curb the pandemic.

“It used to be threatening but it is more than before. What I have observed is that, majority of residents are inconsiderate about the COVID-19. They are failing to go by the precautionary measures put in place by the Health Service.

“The President said we are not in normal times hence the need to sacrifice for each other in our fight against COVID-19 yet people don’t care about the safety of their lives. If care is not taken, the laws will be strengthened and we will all be affected,” the MCE disclosed on Thursday Morning.

The Kwabre East District is the second COVID-19 hotspot in the Ashanti Region with a number of 21 cases as at Wednesday, May 6, 2020, confirmed by the Ashanti Regional Health Directorate. Obuasi leads the chat with 47 cases. Overall, the Ashanti Region has recorded 163 cases with five deaths.

 

 

Hon. Osei Assibey disappointedly spoke on the case increment and made known to SoireeNews that laws on the wearing of nose mask and social distancing will be firmly enforced to enable decency in the Municipality to avoid putting lives at risk in the Ashanti Region.

“It is our mandate as citizens to observe the laws of the land regardless of how uneasy we find it. The laws will be strictly enforced from tomorrow and anyone who enters the Municipality without nose masks will be dealt with.”

 

 

He cautioned drivers to respect the social distancing rule and avoid breaching it for the sake of making money. Hon. Assibey asserted that officials including the law enforcement agencies in the Kwabre East at a meeting on Thursday will discuss ways to control the virus from spreading and included in their schedule is how they will deal with drivers and pedestrians defying the rules.

“The virus has brought this uneasiness and there is nothing we can do than to comply with the health authorities. That is our safe passage and we will see to it that there is accurate enforcement. We are all at risk hence the need to observe the rules.

“Don’t’ come out if you have nothing doing. We don’t want to drag anyone to court as a result of COVID-19. Stay at home and protect others from getting infected,” he ended.
