Obuasi Municipal has recorded 349 cases of coronavirus out of Ghana’s 4,263.

The Municipal has been heavily affected by the pandemic after residents keep flouting the social distance and the other preventive protocols outlined by the Ministry of Health.

According to a report filed by Chukwu Joseph of Angel FM on Kwame Tanko’s Angel in the morning on Tuesday, May 12, 2020, occupants have failed to observe precautionary measures following residents’ engagement in community sporting activities and events which upholds the increase of the virus.

The numbers means Obuasi alone trails the Greater Accra Region as the highest Municipal to record a higher number of COVID-19 cases.

Rendering from Chukwu’s account, inhabitants have turned a deaf ear towards authorities’ mandate as others are deteriorating matters by budding much interest in their daily routines. Failure for guardians to be attentive to their children was communicated one major reason for the rise in numbers following parents’ permission for the young to engage in the sales of nose masks with the notion that coronavirus does not upset the little ones.

Property owners’ decision to restrain their vacant houses and estates from use as quarantine centers has led to the employment of the Obuasi Senior High Tech School, Omak Lodge and Abusco Bus stop as isolation centers dealing with the pandemic which is not enough for the situation.

Further investigations from the Obuasi Municipal Assembly suggests that, the numbers are likely to rise again with other test result yet to be publicized. This put the Municipal in a pole position to be the first to undergo a total lockdown if the situation continues.
