The COVID-19 confirmed cases in Ghana has jumped to 16 according to the Ministry of Information.

As at Sunday before the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo declared measures to help curb the spread of the disease, Ghana had two patients on its radar. The number moved to 11 as at Thursday, March 19, 2020 but five new cases from the Greater Accra Region on Friday has swelled up the number.

The former 11 were all imported case yet the additional five has three being internal with one recording no contact with infected person (s) as the other two have history of contact with diseased persons.

According to the release, the first; a 29-year old Ghanaian lady, resident of Accra with no travel history of travel had her sample confirmed positive in the laboratory.

The second is a 34-year old Ghanaian lady who reside in Accra contact of a confirmed case at place of work also had had her sample confirmed positive in the laboratory.

A 53-year-old Ghanaian male, resident of Tema with no history of travel and no evidence of close contact with confirmed case had his sample confirmed positive in the laboratory.

The forth person is a 41- year old Ghanaian male.

She arrived in Ghana by KLM on Sunday, March 15, 2020 and indicated exposure with family members in Amsterdam exhibiting respiratory symptom and also on flight with some passengers sneezing and coughing. Her sample confirmed positive in the laboratory.

The fifth person is a Ghanaian male; resident of Paris, France with date of arrival unconfirmed who had no evidence of contact with infected persons.

The government is entreating Ghanaians to follow the various measures outlined by the Ministry of Health to avoid contracting the disease.

“There is every need to observe prescribed social distancing and good personal hygiene to prevent community spread. We are determined to do whatever we can to prevent the spread of the virus, and protect the population. All the measures that have been announced will be subject to constant review and enhancement, if necessary,” Nana Addo said.
